Contractor Rating Table

Picking the best contractor is not always easy.  To help you rate the best contractor for you (as opposed to the cheapest, which is not usually the best - especially if you are accountable - see the Low Bid).

Print a copy of this each contractor and rate each contractor , totalling up the points you award for quality and price - the highest points will clearly show (to you and your associates) who is the best contractor for you or your company.

Is low price really more important to you than quality ? - Remember you are not likely to get high quality without this being reflected in the costs.  Usually a 60/40 rating is used - 60% for price and 40% for quality.  You can adjust the rating according to what is important to you.  The following table rates Price at 60% and rates the quality of organisation and resources at 40%.

1=significantly fails to meet the required standard

Reliable / extensive machinery resources & vehicles

We invest several thousand pounds annually in new machinery to ensure reliability and the best quality cut available - to give reasonable results even in the poor weather conditions which we have to endure.  Our clients only see a small aspect of our machinery, however frequently we use our backup machinery to ensure service continuity when even new machines break.  As well as grass strimmers and mowers we have specialist machinery - scarifiers (for moss removal), hedge trimmers, chainsaws, greens machines, jetters, so we can provide an all round maintenance service.  Our extensive inventory is available for inspection to enable you to compare our resources at any time.

Tender Quality
Detailed programme of works with costs

We achieve considerably better results when we work in partnership with our clients, to achieve the standards required at a reasonable cost.  We have two pricing methods that both give excellent value for money in a partnership environment, plus a third were the other two are inappropriate.

1/  Quotation - Price per visit - Please find copy of ProAsset Work Programme with costs.  We have provided a set price per occasion.

2/ Quotation price per hour - We provide a day or hourly rate for the benefit of our clients who require ad-hoc work undertaking.  You are able to compare day rates quoted within the industry.  This works well with provided your contractor is trained, qualified and professional and  saves the client money as the client only pays for the time it takes to do the work.  As we are professional we generally achieve the estimate or budget given, and our clients find this makes sense as they only pay for the time involved in their job and can specify a budget that we have to work to.

3/ Quotation - this is ideal for large occasional jobs.  For small frequent jobs it can be time consuming for both client and contractors as everything has to be itemised and priced up.  Often it is cheaper and quicker to work on a day rate basis if a long term partnership or working together relationship.

We are happy to give quotations if you prefer however lowest quotation approaches, whilst meeting short term goals, are not considered to be in the best interest of long term quality service provision.

4 points

Recommendations / provisional / contingency items shown

Contingency items depend on the standards you require, and we are happy to provide a long term improvement plan or programme for ypur site.  As thss has not been requested we have set out rates for that purpose.  We like standards to improve and frequent provide recommendations.  Our quotation and invoice forms included a recommendation section for this purpose.  We also undertaken lawn surveys as necessary.  Our staff have fully experienced and are qualified in greenkeeping.  Extensive works such as annual scarification and moss treatsments all improve the quality of our lawns, and where Clients are prepared to invest in these aspects, the improved swards and the quality of the grounds speak for themselves.

Aspects you think are important...

Our Clients know the work done onsite is only one aspect of the service they pay for.  Behind the scenes, training is ongoing, machinery regularly serviced, new investments are being made, operations reviewed and improved to help ensure efficiency and effectiveness.  Our Clients know they have accessed a comprehensive organisation which not only ensures their grass is cut in all weather, but also provides the support, experience and understanding of the management issues associated with running contracts up to the value of over £1m p.a dependability, and qualified grounds management advice (ILAM LCGI) which can be relied upon achieve the standards required for the future.
